What are Your Happy Things?

The other day I went to Trader Joe’s, and this mini orchid caught my eye. It was all of 5 or 6 bucks, so of course I brought it home. It is the sweetest, best little thing.

In the blog world, the question “What makes you happy?” has been circulating around for years. It’s a great feel-good question, and it’s always nice to reflect on, but the answers are usually along the lines of: walks on the beach, cool fall evenings, the sun through the trees. I won’t deny that those things are nice, but let’s take it down a notch to the things — the PHYSICAL things (that we may or may not have bought with money) that also bring us great joy. I’m talking: a great Forever21 find, an antique chair, a bag of BBQ chips.

Mine include: A special coffee mug, my newly painted table, and this orchid. Definitely this orchid. Now yours!

  1. love. lately: bobbi brown perfume in no. IV “bath” scent, McConnell’s Turkish coffee ice cream, the novel “Us” by David Nicholls (makes me laugh and weep in the same sitting)

  2. a few things that came to mind…
trader joe’s wake up blend coffee (add a pinch of cinnamon to the grounds before brewing!), my beautiful acoustic guitar named Ted, ogx moroccan argan oil shampoo and conditioner (the scent!! swoooon.), and those sabra hummus and pretzel snack packs (preferably the roasted garlic kind).
    love this post!

    • Phoebe — so funny, I just got hooked on TJ’s coffee. That place can not mess up if they tried! Love your tip on adding a pinch of cinnamon to the grounds, I’m going to try that tomorrow :). Also love that you named your guitar (as have I)…and yes and YES to the other two. <3

  3. I love these! Especially since my happy things definitely include small TJ flowers and my OGX shampoo/conditioner (in mint!). Also on my list: my fuzzy faux fur throw that I cuddle up with on my couch, iced green teas from Starbucks, and Mindy Kaling’s new book.

  4. Feeling my FitBit vibrate when I’ve reached 10,000 steps for the day, Philisophy’s pink frosted animal cracker lipgloss (smells soooo good!), Unite Texturiza Spray (great volume for my flat Asian hair), and The Mindy Project (tomorrow night can’t come fast enough!).

  5. Definitely a fancy coffee drink, flowers from the grocery store, fancy shampoo, fresh pasta purchased at WF, and fancy cheese… I am started to note a “fancy” pattern.

Posie is correct, McConnell’s Turkish coffee ice cream is to.die.for.

Reading a book without worrying how much time has past also fills me with joy.
