I’m not usually big on resolutions, but for 2017, I had something in mind: tiny adventures.
For those of you who read 3 Chairs regularly, you know by now that I’m a homebody, and having a routine makes me feel grounded and secure, especially on the days I’m working from my couch. BUT it’s tricky. Being so set in my ways, I miss out on life’s little unpredictable moments — the ones you find when you’re willing to diverge from your daily beaten path.
So, I made a vow to myself: I would take a tiny adventure every day. Somedays, my tiny adventure means walking down a different street on my way home. Sometimes it means pushing myself to go out for a drink when I’m cranky. Sometimes it’s just means not putting on my pajamas until it’s bedtime. Seriously. Anyone can embark on a tiny adventure! The point isn’t so much what you do, it’s simply that you show up. It’s pushing open a small door when you would rather keep it closed. And that was a huge a-ha moment: adventure doesn’t have to be an 8 mile hike up a ragged mountain. It doesn’t have to mean sweat and sharks and Cliff bars. All it takes is stepping outside your house, looking at the trees and people and sky and listening to the curious child inside. Let her lead the way.
