The Beach in December + Juniper Attempts to Swim

Funny thing about the ocean in December: it looks enticing and welcoming and warm even though it’s 40 something degrees right now. That might not seem that bad, but try to wrap your head around this: when you’re swimming in the cool Atlantic on a hot July day, the water is in the upper 70’s.

The ocean has always had an uplifting affect on me, regardless of temperature, so I make a point of bringing Juniper to the beach a few days a week. The dog loves the beach, but can’t seem to understand the concept of swimming, even on the hottest summer days. She’ll try really hard and inch her way in, and then have a full blown freakout and scramble for the shore. It’s endlessly entertaining to watch. Below, see three valiant attempts (notice her pal, Zephyr, calmly watching, clearly amused).
