A Dinner Party Tip

My friends and I have dinner parties often, and although they’re almost always super casual and spur of the moment, everyone is really great about contributing — either with wine, a side salad, a pint of vanilla ice cream, or a bottle of whiskey. : )

It’s good form to always bring something, but often times asking the host/hostess can lead to the polite, “we’re all set, you don’t have to bring anything!”

So, instead of asking “can I bring anything” ask “what can I bring.” It’s a tiny difference but it lets the host know you are prepared to arrive with something in hand, and I’ve found that they’re more likely to let you know what they actually really need (Some cilantro! A cup of heavy cream! An extra lemon!)
